From the big barn that has stood as an icon in the heart of Peconic for 100 years, comes Ackerly Pond Vineyards. Named after a pond a mile to the east that was the site of a grist mill, Ackerly Pond Vineyards was established in 1998 by Ray Blum who has been growing grapes and producing fine wine on the North Fork since the 1970's. Ray was one of the first to envision the North Fork of Long Island becoming a thriving vineyard region capable of producing some of New York State's finest wines.

The tasting room is open on the weekends and holidays. Just look for the big gray barn with the American Flag on Peconic Lane.

It's altogether fitting that when Long Island's oldest and most respected winery was up for sale some years ago, it caught the eye of a cosmopolitan Philadelphia couple who loved wine, had a respect for tradition and whose own noble roots dated back to ninth century Italy - Marco and Ann Marie Borghese.

The new owners have expanded the vineyard in Long Island, redesigned the tasting room and set up a cafe-like seating area, one indoors and another outdoors, to allow people a greater degree of relaxation when tasting the ever-expanding selection of Castello di Borghese wines.

We are dedicated to making dry, fruity, fun to drink pink wines styled after those made in the South of France for centuries. The fruit from our vineyards is grown and harvested specifically for this purpose. The results show in ripe, extremely drinkable rosés that strike a subtle balance of fruit flavour and crisp acidity. We grow and harvest our fruit specifically for the purpose of making rosé wines. We harvest early when fruit is optimum; and when the skins are just thick enough to allow for subtle color and tanin in the wine making process.
